Personal growth is a constant struggle and it comes through experience - usually bad. Or so I believe. I think being exposed is what describes our daily life the best: we're exposed to several incentives, images, consumerism agendas and of course we may easily feel lost in an ocean of other people's views, chats and criticism of any kind. Can this be frustrating? Can it make one lose connection with oneself? Yes, it can. But think of it like this: if love is what most of us seek, then why not give it to ourselves? After all, you can't expect everything from others, otherwise you'll probably face certain identity and self-esteem issues eventually.
